Battersea Park House

Project type

Architecture, full-house renovation with basement, ground floor rear and side return, and first floor extensions

Location

Battersea, South-West London

Photography

Peter Molloy

The brief was to transform this three-storey Victorian home within Battersea Park Conservation Area in south-west London into a functional, considered and resilient family home.

The property - a terraced Victorian home in Battersea, South-West London - had been unsympathetically split into flats over the years. TAK were then brought onboard for a full renovation, including a new basement, ground floor side and rear, and first floor extensions.

The floor plan layouts offer flexibility, just like the media room which turned into a tennis rebounder room overnight. Consistent off-white colour palette has been used throughout the house, punctuated by nickel fittings, carrara marble, and oak floors. Ample built-in storage means that there is space to breathe, free from clutter.

Hardwood timber flooring has been installed throughout, a durable solution which is also a healthier choice for the family, compared to carpets. Water-based VOC-free paint, including for the built-in joinery, has been used to ensure good air quality. Timber structure has been used from ground floor upwards, instead of typically used beam-and-block to ground floor.
